Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency and the Association of Sustainable Quality of Living (Estidama).
The protocol was signed by Ali Abu Sunna, the Chairperson of the Environmental Affairs Agency, and Reem Abdel-Meguid, the Head of the Board of Trustees of the Association of Sustainable Quality of Living, to launch the second phase of the Climate Change Award in Africa, after the launch of the first phase within the activities of the COP27.
Fouad stressed the importance of the award as one of the mechanisms for achieving momentum and the participation of different groups in facing the effects of climate change. One of the women who own distinguished environmental projects.
She pointed out that the award comes within the efforts of the Ministry of Environment to create a supportive climate for promoting environmental and climate investment, especially with the changes in Egypt’s environmental strategy over the past years, and the consideration of solving environmental problems from an economic perspective, noting the holding of the first environmental and climate investment forum in Egypt at the end of July.
Foud noted that the conference will provide an opportunity to present promising investment opportunities in the field of environment and climate to investors and the private sector, whether at the level of large, medium and small companies and entrepreneurs, in addition to investment opportunities in ecotourism with the participation of local communities.
The Minister of Environment stated that the award consists of 4 categories, a category dedicated to large and medium companies in the field of mitigation and adaptation technology, a category for small and emerging companies led by women, She Grows Green Green Finance for banks and investors, Youth Climate Education for universities, research centres and non-profit institutions.
According to the minister, the award aims to demonstrate the ability of candidates from African member states of COMESA to influence, innovate and expand, in line with the vision of COMESA to form an integrated unit at the international level economically and to advance the issues of information technology, industry, energy, environmental sustainability and natural resources.
Nevertheless, Abu Sunna confirmed that the Environmental Affairs Agency will provide technical and logistical support for the award by setting technical standards for evaluation, motivating local and international experts to join the arbitration committee, and promoting the award through the ministry’s website, in addition to cooperating in organizing training and qualifying courses for youth and volunteers and organizing and implementing all preparations and events for the award.
