Deputy Director of the Department of Africa at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Polyakov, has said that his country has received assurances from 49 countries to participate in the second Russian-African summit in Petersburg, indicating that more than half of the participating countries will be represented at the level of heads of state and government.

“So far, we have received assurances from 49 African countries to participate in the summit, and about half of them will be represented at the highest level,” Polyakov said at a roundtable organized by the Rossiya Segodnya media group on Tuesday.

“This attitude on the part of African countries shows their firm determination to develop relations with Russia despite unprecedented pressure from the West,” he added.

The Russian-African Summit is the main and largest event in Russian-African relations. The aim of this Summit is to achieve a qualitatively new level of mutually beneficial partnership, which meets the challenges of the twenty-first century.

The Economic Forum, which will be held within the framework of the second Russian-African Summit, is also an important event, according to Russian officials, in Russia’s relations with the countries of the African continent.

St. Petersburg will host the second Russia-Africa Summit on 27-28 July.

“The first Russian-African summit was held in October 2019 in Sochi, Russia, under the auspices of Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.”
