Travis Scott’s planned concert at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt has been cancelled, Live Nation Middle East has confirmed.
The company said in a statement that the show, which was scheduled for July 28, was cancelled due to “complex production issues.” The statement also said that refunds would be issued to all ticket holders.
The cancellation comes after reports that the Egyptian Musicians’ Syndicate had forced the show to be cancelled due to cultural concerns. The syndicate said in a statement that it had cancelled the licence for the concert because it “goes against the cultural identity of the Egyptian people.”
The syndicate’s statement cited social media rumours that Scott had performed “peculiar rituals” at his concerts, which the syndicate said were “contradictory to our authentic societal values and traditions.”
Live Nation had previously denied these rumours, saying that there were “no changes to Travis Scott’s show in Egypt.”
The cancellation of Scott’s concert is a blow to the Egyptian tourism industry, which has been struggling in recent years. The concert was expected to draw thousands of visitors to Egypt, and its cancellation is likely to have a negative impact on tourism.
