Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will head to N’djamena, capital of Chad, on Sunday to take part in the first meeting of the ministerial mechanism of the Sudan Neighbours Summit held on 13 July in Cairo.

Ahmed Abu Zeid, official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the foreign ministers of the neighbouring countries will discuss various aspects of the Sudanese crisis in all its dimensions, security, political and humanitarian, and its effects on the Sudanese people and its regional and international repercussions.

The Foreign Ministers shall formulate practical proposals that will enable the heads of State and Government of Sudan’s neighbouring countries to effectively move towards solutions that will put an end to the current crisis and preserve the unity and territorial integrity of the Sudan and the capabilities of its brotherly people.

The countries neighbouring Sudan held their first meeting in Cairo, stressing the importance of preserving the Sudanese state and its capabilities and preventing its disintegration.

The summit’s final communiqué revealed the formation of a ministerial mechanism on the crisis at the level of foreign ministers of neighbouring countries.

The ministerial mechanism will work on an implementation plan of action, including practical and implementable solutions to stop the fighting and reach a comprehensive solution to the Sudanese crisis through direct communication with the various Sudanese parties in their integration with the existing mechanisms, including IGAD and the African Union (AU).

The communication mechanism is discussing the executive measures required to address the repercussions of the Sudanese crisis on the future, stability, unity and territorial integrity of the Sudan.

It will seek maintaining the Sudanese national institutions and preventing their collapse, developing guarantees to reduce the negative effects of the crisis on neighbouring countries, and studying the mechanism of humanitarian and relief assistance to the Sudanese people.
