Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received on Monday Sultan Mofaddal Seif El-Din, the Sultan of the Bohra sect in India, and granted him the Order of the Nile, in appreciation of his continuous efforts in Egypt on the cultural, charitable and societal levels.
The Dawoodi Bohras are a religious denomination within the Ismā’īlī branch of Shia. Their largest numbers reside in India, Pakistan, Yemen, and East Africa.
The meeting was attended by Abbas Kamel, the Head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, and Mufaddal Muhammad Hassan Ali, the representative of the Bohra Sultan in Cairo, in addition to his sons, Jaafar Al-Sadiq Imad Al-Din, Taha Najm Al-Din, and Hussein Burhan Al-Din.
Ahmed Fahmy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic, stated that the president welcomed Mofaddal Saif Al-Din as a dear guest of Egypt, praising the historical relations between Egypt and the Bohra sect.
Al-Sisi also expressed appreciation for the role of the Sultan and the sect in restoring and renovating the shrines of Aal Al-Bayt and a number of historical Egyptian mosques, as well as various charitable activities in Egypt, in a manner that integrates with the state’s efforts to achieve development, and its keenness to develop historic Cairo and restore and highlight its authentic civilized character.
Bohra’s Sultan expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt. He said: “I appreciate what Egypt enjoys under the leadership of the president in promoting citizenship on the basis of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence, in a way that guarantees a stable climate for social peace for all.”
He also praised the president’s belief in the importance of dialogue among all peoples of the world of various sects and races, and the openness of Egypt to all religions and sects, based on the history of its ancient people, its unique civilization, and its correct understanding of religion.
Seif El-Din also praised “the continuous progress in Egypt, and the developmental achievements that are being achieved in various fields, in addition to Egypt’s active role on the international and regional arenas, and its support for the issues of the Islamic world”, according to the spokesperson’s statement, expressing his sincere prayers for the Egyptian people to continue security, stability and progress.
