Egypt President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, King Abdullah II of Jordan, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met in New Alamein on Monday to discuss the developments of the Palestinian issue and the regional and international situations associated with it.

In the final statement of the summit, the leaders affirmed the need to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine within a clear timetable and to restore the Palestinian people’s full legitimate rights which include the right to self-determination, and the establishment of their independent and sovereign state on the lines of 4 June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital. They also called for resolving the issue of Palestinian refugees in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, and to achieve a two-state solution.

The leaders stressed that Israel must implement its obligations and commitments in accordance with international law, international humanitarian law and previous international agreements and  understandings, including those concluded with the Palestinian side.

They condemned the continuation and escalation of illegal Israeli practices that undermine all the rights of the Palestinian people, violate the norms of international law, undermine the internationally agreed two-state solution, and lead to violence and the spread of chaos.

They also expressed the importance of Israel, as the occupying power, halting all settlement activities, confiscating Palestinian land, forcibly displacing the Palestinian people from their homes and changing the character and identity of the city of Jerusalem, which represent a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimate resolutions and the Security Council.

The leaders also stressed the need to stop the terrorism of settlers and extremist currents, and hold them accountable.

The three leaders expressed their intention to continue their efforts with the major international powers and parties interested in peace to revive a serious, meaningful peace process based on the norms of international law, the terms of reference of the peace process, within a mechanism and a clear and specific timetable.

In this context, they called on the international community to support those efforts to achieve the just and comprehensive peace that the region and all its peoples deserve and to lift the injustice inflicted on the Palestinian people, which contradicts international law based on the consolidation of human rights.

They also stressed that Israel must implement the various previous commitments, including those contained in the outcomes of the Aqaba and Sharm el-Sheikh meetings, shoulder its responsibilities, stop its aggressions and calm the situation on the ground in preparation for the revival of peace negotiations.

In this context, the leaders stressed the need for Israel to respect its obligations as the occupying power in the Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem.

“Israel must stop its incursions into occupied West Bank cities, which undermine the ability of the Palestinian government and security to carry out their duties, and to lift the blockade of the Gaza Strip and other practices that fuel tension and violence and threaten to inflame the situation,” the statement added..

The leaders also emphasized the importance of Israel releasing the Palestinian funds held by it without a legal basis and in violation of the agreements concluded in this regard.
