Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad and a delegation from the French University of Côte d’Azur met Wednesday with graduate students and those interested in the environmental field in Egypt, to discuss the country’s climate action and sustainable development goals.

The meeting was attended by Fatima Ashour, a professor at Cairo University; Nevine Younis, President of the French-speaking Society of Engineers; and Ihab Abu Al-Saad, Head of the Operations Sector at EnviroCare, one of the national companies working in the field of waste management.

During the meeting, Fouad stressed that the Egyptian government is establishing incubators to adopt youth ideas as a basic partner for a sustainable future, working to encourage youth innovations, adding that the Green Zone of the COP27 witnessed a number of those innovations related to the issue of climate change, from various faculties and majors such as engineering, medicine, literature and media.

The Minister of Environment explained that environment ministers around the world aim to achieve integration between the environment and development, not the implementation of projects, as the environment overlaps with all other sectors such as oil, industry, tourism and others, indicating the ministry’s constant endeavour to raise environmental awareness among citizens of the importance of the environment and the need to preserve it.

The Minister of the Environment pointed out that many university graduates tend to implement projects in the environmental field, whether in the field of waste recycling, ecotourism or other projects, pointing out that there are many success stories that have been achieved in natural reserves such as Fayoum reserves, and there are many projects that include integration communities within their natural reserves.

For her part, Nevine Younis confirmed that the association aims to be a link between the university and the labor market in order to train human cadres with a sufficient amount of knowledge and competence required by the labor market.

Younis explained that this training is an activation of the cooperation protocol between EnviroCare and Cairo University, to exchange experiences between the two sides, as coordination will take place during the coming period to send 20 Egyptian students to the French University to raise their efficiency and learn about the latest technologies in the field of environment.
