Cuba’s FM looks forward to Egypt’s participation in 77th China summit

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez expressed his country’s appreciation for the remarkable development witnessed by bilateral relations between Cuba and Egypt, and its aspiration for Egypt’s participation in the Group of 77 and China summit scheduled to be held on Sept. 15-16 in Havana.

Rodriguez made the remarks during a phone call with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Shoukry praised the historical relations between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1958. He pointed to Egypt’s aspiration to strengthen cooperation and friendship ties with Cuba, especially in the economic and trade fields. 

He also expressed appreciation for the coordination with Cuba in multilateral international forums and the efforts exerted by the Cuban chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China.

The Group of 77 is a forum of developing countries that was established in 1964. China joined the group in 2001.

The summit is expected to discuss a number of issues of common interest to developing countries, including climate change, sustainable development, and economic cooperation.
