Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has appointed Ahmed Abdel Rahman El Sheikh Ali as the new chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) for a one-year term, starting from 26 August 2023.
Ahmed El Sheikh is not a newcomer to the EGX, as he has held various positions in the stock market, the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), and Misr for Central Clearing, Depository, and Registry (MCDR) over the past two decades.
Before his appointment as the chairperson of the EGX, he was the vice-president of the FRA since August 2020. He also served as the vice-chairperson of the EGX from December 2018 to August 2020, and was a member of the boards of directors of several companies affiliated with the EGX, such as Misr Information Dissemination Company, EGIT Technical Services Company.
Ahmed El Sheikh has also worked as the head of the trading supervision sector and the membership sector at the EGX, as well as the supervisor of the Central Administration for Monitoring Trading Markets at the FRA. He started his career in 1997 as a staff member in the market operations department at the EGX.
Ahmed El Sheikh holds a Master of Business Administration degree with a specialization in capital markets from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. He also has a diploma in financial markets from the same academy and a diploma in investment and financing from Ain Shams University. He graduated from the Faculty of Commerce at Ain Shams University in 1992.
