President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with Yoshimasa Hayashi, the Foreign Minister of Japan, on Wednesday, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two countries. The meeting was attended by Sameh Shoukry, Egypt’s Foreign Minister.
The president stressed Egypt’s keenness to strengthen joint relations with Japan, building on the results of the visit of the Japanese Prime Minister to Egypt last April, which raised the relations to the level of strategic partnership. He also expressed Egypt’s appreciation and respect for Japan at the official and popular levels.
The Japanese Foreign Minister welcomed the positive developments in the joint relations at all levels and praised Egypt’s achievements at the development level, which boosted Japanese investments in Egypt and doubled them in a short period. He affirmed Japan’s aspiration to continue and strengthen this path.
The meeting reviewed various aspects of bilateral cooperation in different fields, such as education, energy, transport and technology. The president expressed Egypt’s keenness to benefit from Japan’s distinctive experience in education, especially in building a distinguished human personality at all levels. The meeting also touched upon the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is a symbol of civilization and cultural cooperation between the two friendly countries.
The two sides also discussed issues of international peace and security, especially the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its negative repercussions on the global economic situation and the energy and food crises. They discussed a number of regional issues of mutual interest, such as the Palestinian issue, and agreed on the priority of political solutions and peaceful dialogue, maintaining the unity and cohesion of countries, and working on reaching a just and comprehensive solution to establish an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international references.
