Egypt strongly condemned, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, the terrorist attack that targeted the headquarters of the General Directorate of Security at the Ministry of Interior in the Turkish capital Ankara, which wounded two police officers.

Egypt expressed its full solidarity with Türkiye, its government, and its people, and wished the injured a speedy recovery. Egypt also reaffirmed its firm stance against all forms of terrorism and violence that threaten stability and terrorize citizens.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that two members of the Turkish security forces were slightly wounded by the shooting that occurred on Sunday morning, in front of the Turkish Interior Ministry building, where an explosion and gunfire were heard in the Kizilay district in central Ankara.

The Turkish news agency “Anadolu” quoted Yerlikaya as saying that two terrorists attacked with a small commercial vehicle near the entrance of the Public Security Directorate. He added that one of the terrorists involved in the attack detonated himself, while the other was “neutralized”.

The security forces rushed to the area and took extensive security measures after the explosion and gunfire were heard. Ataturk Street was closed to traffic, and special police forces, fire brigades, and health personnel arrived in the area.

The Ankara prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into the terrorist attack in front of the General Directorate of Security and issued a decision to ban broadcasting and accessing content related to the incident.

On the other hand, the “NTV” channel reported that the explosion also occurred a few hundred meters from the entrance of the parliament. Parliament was scheduled to meet on Sunday for the first time since its summer recess.
