Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, stated that China condemns all acts that harm civilians and opposes any violation of international law in the current Palestinian-Israeli situation. This statement was made during a joint press conference with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, after co-chairing the China-EU High-Level Strategic Dialogue.

FM Wang Yi emphasized that Palestine is currently facing a critical situation, with ongoing conflict causing significant civilian casualties and a rapid deterioration of the humanitarian situation. Given the severity of the situation, FM Wang Yi outlined four pressing priorities for China. Firstly, it is crucial to stop the fighting and prevent its further escalation and deterioration. Secondly, it is imperative to uphold international humanitarian law, prioritize the safety of civilians, establish a humanitarian rescue and assistance passage promptly, and prevent a severe humanitarian disaster. Thirdly, relevant countries should maintain calm, exercise restraint, adopt an objective and just position, work towards de-escalation of the conflict, and avoid further threats to regional and international security. Fourthly, the UN should play a significant role in resolving the question of Palestine. The UN Security Council needs to shoulder its responsibilities, foster international consensus promptly, and take concrete measures to bring an end to the conflict.

FM Wang Yi highlighted that China is engaging in communication with the relevant parties and will actively participate in emergency consultations at the UN Security Council. China also supports the call by Secretary General Antonio Guterres to protect civilians. China will provide emergency humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian National Authority through the UN.

FM Wang Yi emphasized that the question of Palestine is at the core of the Middle East issue and remains an open wound in today’s world. The root cause of this question lies in the prolonged delay in realizing the dream of an independent State of Palestine and the failure to address the historical injustice suffered by the Palestinian people. While Israel has the right to statehood, the survival of the Palestinians should also be a concern. The Jewish nation is no longer homeless, but when will the Palestinian nation return to its home? The injustice towards Palestine has persisted for over half a century, and this suffering must not continue. The answer lies in the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine. This is how Palestine and Israel can coexist peacefully, and how Arabs and Jews can live in harmony. Only with the full implementation of the two-state solution can the Middle East truly achieve peace, and Israel can enjoy lasting security. The right way to advance the two-state solution is to resume peace talks promptly, with all peace mechanisms playing a positive role. The Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue will soon visit relevant countries in the region and actively work towards a cessation of violence and de-escalation of the situation.

FM Wang Yi emphasized that on the question of Palestine, China will continue to stand on the side of peace, justice, international law, the shared aspirations of the majority of countries in the world, and human conscience.
