Daily News Egypt’s science editor Mohammed El-Said has been awarded the 1st runner-up prize in the Nile Media Awards (print media category) for his article on renewable energy as a solution for the Nile Basin conflict. The award ceremony was held in Kampala, Uganda on Monday.

The Nile Media Award, organised by the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI), is a competition for journalists based in the NBI Member States. It aims to encourage increased, factual, and balanced reporting on Nile cooperation and Nile Basin issues.

El-Said’s article explored a new approach to achieving cooperation between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia, the three countries that are engaged in a political conflict over the filling and operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). The article highlighted how renewable energy could benefit all parties involved and reduce the dependence on hydropower.

El-Said is the Science Editor for Daily News Egypt. He has over 10 years of experience as a journalist and his work has appeared in various regional and international media outlets. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Geography and he is also a PhD candidate in Human Geography at Cairo University.
