Chapter Zero Egypt, the first chapter in Africa and the Middle East of the Climate Governance Initiative’s global network, organized its third webinar titled “Decarbonisation to Reach Carbon Neutral” as part of its mission to educate business leaders on the opportunities and challenges of climate change and climate governance.

The webinar featured Abdel Hamid Beshara, the Technical Advisor to the Board of Directors of Chapter Zero Egypt and the Founder and CEO of MASADER – Environmental & Energy Services, and Ramez Ragheb, the Principal Sustainability Consultant at MASADER.

The webinar consisted of two parts. The first part, presented by Ragheb, gave an overview of the current global situation and explained the concepts and methods of measuring the carbon footprint according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol of 1998. He also clarified the meaning and implications of the different scopes of emissions.

The second part, delivered by Beshara, covered various topics related to emissions, disclosure, risks, and impacts. He explained what actions should be taken after calculating the carbon footprint, such as reporting and reducing emissions. He also discussed the environmental and climate disclosure standards that are currently in use, as well as the decarbonisation targets and the climate-related risks and impacts on business activities and growth.

Chapter Zero Egypt was launched with the support of the EBRD to equip board members with skills and knowledge to make addressing climate change a boardroom priority and to provide a platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration among business leaders to drive sustainable growth in the face of evolving environmental challenges. It promotes the adoption of the Principles for Effective Climate Governance published by the WEF in 2019.
