Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on Wednesday that his country is committed to working with all possible means to enhance the role and effectiveness of the United Nations.

“Russia, as one of the founding states of the United Nations and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, is fully aware of its responsibility for the future of this most important international organization, and we are ready to continue constructive dialogue with its representatives in Russia,” Lavrov said at the UN Day ceremony.

He added: “As the world is undergoing profound changes associated with the emergence of multipolarity, the UN has a vital role in fostering equal cooperation among countries and finding collective solutions to many challenges and threats.”

“Thanks to its universal legitimacy, the world organization has a unique opportunity to strengthen multilateral cooperation in various fields, such as maintaining international peace and security, protecting human rights and ensuring sustainable socio-economic development,” he noted.

“True multilateralism is based on the UN and its charter principles, and no structures with limited membership created outside its framework can pretend to represent the opinion of the entire world community,” Lavrov emphasised.
