The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, strongly denounced the Israeli occupation forces’ attacks on hospitals in the Gaza Strip, especially Shifa Hospital, the main health facility in the area. He said that this was an inhumane and criminal act that violated international humanitarian law.

According to Jamal Rushdiy, the spokesperson for the secretary-general, Aboul Gheit said that the international community must stop the brutal attacks on hospitals that shelter the sick and wounded. He also blamed the parties that gave Israel the green light to wage a lawless war that defied any human conscience.

Aboul Gheit also met with General Patrick Gauchat, the head of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization, which monitors the ceasefire between Israel and four Arab countries, at the General Secretariat headquarters on Monday. He heard an assessment from the UN official about the security and field situation on various fronts.

Aboul Gheit warned that the ongoing war in Gaza and the lack of an immediate ceasefire increased the risk of security deterioration and the spread of the conflict to other fronts. He urged those who wanted to contain the conflict to work quickly to achieve a lasting ceasefire.
