The 10th meeting of the EU-Egypt Association Council will be held in Brussels on 23 January 2024, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Association Agreement that came into force in 2004. The meeting will be chaired by High Representative Josep Borrell and Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will lead the Egyptian delegation.

The EU values its relationship with Egypt as a strategic partner and a regional actor.

The Association Council will review the progress of the cooperation under the Egypt-EU partnership priorities 2021-2027, which were agreed at the previous Association Council on 19 June 2022.

The Association Council will also discuss bilateral relations, covering topics such as stability, human rights, security, counter-terrorism, and migration in both Egypt and the EU, as well as economic and social issues, including investments, environment and energy. Furthermore, the Association Council will address foreign policy matters, including several regional crises.

The discussions will build on the commitment made at the last Association Council to enhance democracy, fundamental freedoms and human rights, and to tackle common challenges, pursue shared interests and ensure long-term stability and sustainable development for both sides.

The EU and Egypt will also explore ongoing initiatives that aim to maximise the potential of EU-Egypt relations, support Egypt’s socio-economic development, and reduce the impact of the current crises in the region with the goal of achieving mutual stability and security.

Additionally, the parties are expected to sign a Framework Agreement on Egypt’s participation in EU programmes in the margins of the meeting.
