Ethiopia is set to digitise 620 public sector entities in a bid to accelerate the growth of its digital economy. The move comes as the country has already achieved significant productivity gains in several sectors, including telecommunications, through its national digital initiatives.

Belete Molla, Ethiopia’s Minister of Innovation and Technology, stated that efforts are underway to build digital infrastructure and enhance expertise in the field to support the implementation of the digital economy.

Additionally, the Ministry has launched a programme, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to improve digital literacy among college students. The initial phase of the programme aims to reach 10,000 young people, ENA, a partner of TV BRICS reported.

Molla emphasized Ethiopia’s commitment to digital transformation, stating, “Ethiopia has achieved great productivity in a number of industries, including telecommunications, thanks to its national digital initiatives.”

The digitisation of public sector entities is expected to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance service delivery to citizens. It is also anticipated to foster greater transparency and accountability while creating new opportunities for innovation and economic growth.
