Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir recently met with Frank Hartmann, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cairo. The meeting took place as Ambassador Hartmann’s tenure in Cairo nears completion.
During their discussion, Minister El-Wazir highlighted the excellent cooperation between Egypt and Germany in implementing significant transport projects. Notably, they discussed the high-speed electric train network project, which spans approximately 2,000 km across three lines. Deutsche Bahn (German Railways) is also involved in managing and operating this network.
Additionally, Minister El-Wazir mentioned ongoing collaboration on the Tahya Misr container terminal project at Damietta Port. A consortium comprising Hapag-Lloyd, Eurogate Germany, and Contship Italy operates the terminal. Furthermore, cooperation with the German company Herrenknecht involves supplying tunneling machines for Egypt’s fourth metro line.
Ambassador Hartmann expressed his satisfaction with his tenure as Germany’s Ambassador to Egypt. He appreciated the recognition from both the Egyptian people and government for Germany and its industries. The German side remains committed to expanding mutual cooperation, particularly in the rapidly developing transport sector.
