Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sweilem, arrived in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, on Monday for a four-day official visit.
The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and enhance cooperation in various sectors, particularly water resources and irrigation.
Sweilem was received by Pal Mai Deng, South Sudan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Moataz Mustafa Abdel Qader, Egypt’s Ambassador to Juba, and other senior South Sudanese officials.
During the visit, Sweilem is scheduled to meet with President Salva Kiir, the Vice Presidents, and Minister Mai Deng to discuss joint projects and explore ways to further cooperation.
The visit will also include the inauguration of several development projects implemented by Egypt in South Sudan, including a meteorological forecasting centre, the Bahr El Ghazal dredging project, and the groundwater wells project in Bor.
Sweilem emphasized the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries and highlighted Egypt’s support for South Sudan in implementing numerous development projects in various fields, including electricity, health, education, training, scholarships, water resources, and irrigation.
“The cooperation between Egypt and South Sudan extends to many vital sectors, reflecting the depth of bilateral relations and the importance of strengthening them,” Sweilem said.
“Egypt spares no effort in supporting its sister, South Sudan, and always aims to enhance cooperation and partnership to achieve sustainable development and mutual prosperity.”
Mai Deng expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s significant support, particularly in water resources and irrigation, and highlighted the strong bond shared by the two countries through the Nile River.
He noted that the visit will include several bilateral and technical cooperation meetings between the two ministries to discuss the progress of existing projects and ways to enhance Egypt’s support in water resources and irrigation.
The visit is part of a series of mutual visits aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and fostering cooperation between Egypt and South Sudan. It underscores Egypt’s commitment to supporting South Sudan’s development and promoting mutual prosperity between the two nations.
