The House of Representatives’ Special Committee tasked with reviewing the government’s program has concluded several days of intensive meetings.
Discussions between committee members and relevant ministers have been constructive and objective, reflecting a growing consensus between the legislature and the executive.
These meetings underscore a shared commitment to the national interest and a desire to strengthen collaboration in addressing regional challenges, the economic crisis, and advancement across all sectors.
The committee’s sixth meeting, held on Saturday, involved the Ministers of Education, Higher Education, and Labour, as well as Mahmoud Fawzi, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Legal Affairs, and Political Communication.
The committee is expected to finalize its meetings on Monday and submit a report to the House. This report will detail recommendations and observations on the government’s program.
Following the report’s submission, the House will debate the contents during a general session scheduled for Sunday, July 21st. A confidence vote will be held after the discussions, requiring a majority vote from House members for approval.
The Special Committee comprises 42 members, including MP Mohamed Abou El Enein, chairs of specialized committees, representatives of parliamentary blocs, and independent and opposition members such as Soliman Wahdan, Ghada Mahmoud Ali, and Mostafa Bakry.
Article 126 of the House’s internal regulations outlines the process for reviewing a government’s program. This includes a time limit for submission by the Prime Minister and a ten-day window for the Special Committee to prepare a report after referral.
The House has a maximum of thirty days to grant or deny confidence to the government following the report’s submission.
Failure to secure a majority vote triggers specific procedures outlined in the Constitution.
