Egypt, US discuss cooperation in human development

Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met on Wednesday with Hero Mostafa, the US Ambassador to Egypt, to discuss cooperation mechanisms and develop plans for the development of the Egyptian person and his skills, while working to provide him with all means of comprehensive health care, in line with achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030.

 

The meeting dealt with agreeing on ways to implement the human development plan during the coming period, which targets people from birth and at all stages of life, according to Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population.

Cooperation between the two sides includes providing support for the expansion of building children’s nurseries and training the teachers working in them, to develop all their skills at all age and school stages, and qualifying them for the labour market, in a way that works to advance Egyptian society, as these plans will be implemented in cooperation with the ministerial authorities and bodies entrusted with the file of human development.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the meeting discussed cooperation in localizing and transferring pharmaceutical industry technology, to achieve self-sufficiency in this field, explaining that the Egyptian state has a broad vision of becoming a leading centre in the medical industry.

 

He pointed out that the minister stressed the importance of benefiting from the pioneering expertise in this file, stressing the centrality of the role played by the Egyptian Medicines Authority and the Unified Purchasing Authority in this file.

The official spokesperson explained that the two sides discussed cooperation in the field of family planning, through cooperation in providing support in importing family planning tools from the United States that are not manufactured locally, as well as cooperation in developing and expanding health care initiatives and in the field of family planning.

The two sides also discussed cooperation in intensifying media campaigns related to family planning, by studying the nature of the recipient audience in each governorate separately, while determining the priorities of the Ministry of Health, to achieve the target of these campaigns, and raise the levels of awareness and response among Egyptian families, which contributes to increasing the numbers of beneficiaries of family planning services.
