Moscow and Havana have agreed to a joint project to establish a new taxi Cuban fleet, primarily using vehicles manufactured in Moscow.

The Moscow government and the Cuban Ministry of Transport signed a memorandum of intent outlining the initiative. Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport Maksim Liksutov and Eduardo Rodriguez Davila, Cuban Minister of Transport, attended the signing ceremony.

The agreement involves the delivery of 50 vehicles from Moscow. Discussions also included adapting the vehicles’ multimedia systems to the Spanish language to better suit the Cuban market, TV BRICS reported. A joint working group will be formed to develop a comprehensive business model and investment plan for the project.

Further collaboration is anticipated through training opportunities. Liksutov invited representatives from Cuba’s Ministry of Transport to participate in training programs at the Corporate University of the Moscow Transport Complex.

“Our cars are successfully used in taxi services, car-sharing systems, as well as in municipal and federal agencies. They have proven their reliability in operation and maintenance. We welcome the Cuban partners’ enthusiasm for improving urban transport and making journeys more comfortable and safer,” Liksutov said.

The potential for Havana to join UrbanTransportData, an international analytical platform developed by the Moscow Government, was also explored during the meeting.

This platform facilitates the sharing of information on the development and status of transport systems among participating cities. The platform’s collaborative nature reflects the broader aim of the Cuban taxi fleet project to foster technological and operational exchange between Moscow and Havana.
