The implementation of the Gaza Strip ceasefire and the broader Middle East peace process were key topics of discussion in a phone call Saturday between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, according to a statement from the Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson.

The two leaders discussed the importance of continuing to implement the ceasefire agreement, which was brokered through Egyptian, Qatari and US mediation, and increasing aid deliveries to Gaza. Al-Sisi stressed the need for lasting peace in the region and urged the launch of a peace process that could lead to a lasting solution. According to the spokesperson, Al-Sisi said, “The international community relies on President Trump’s ability to achieve a permanent and historic peace agreement that ends the decades-long conflict in the region, particularly given President Trump’s commitment to peace, as he affirmed in his inaugural address.”

Al-Sisi also congratulated Trump on his second term as president, “reflecting the immense confidence the American people have in him and acknowledging his capabilities,” the statement said. He invited Trump to visit Egypt to discuss regional issues and the strategic relationship between the two countries, including attending the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum. Trump reciprocated with an invitation for Al-Sisi to visit Washington.

The conversation also covered bilateral relations, including enhancing economic and investment ties and cooperation on water security. Both presidents affirmed their commitment to achieving peace and stability in the Middle East.

The spokesperson, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shinawy, described the call as a positive exchange. He specified that the two presidents discussed, “the importance of continuing the implementation of the first and second phases of the ceasefire agreement and solidifying the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which was reached through Egyptian, Qatari, and American mediation.” The need, “to intensify aid delivery to the people of Gaza,” was also discussed. Al-Sisi further emphasised, “the need to launch a peace process that leads to a lasting solution in the region.”

Both presidents agreed on the importance of continued communication and coordination, and affirmed the need for intensified meetings between officials from both sides to advance bilateral relations and address shared concerns, reflecting what the statement called the “strength and depth of the Egyptian-American strategic relationship.”
