Health Ministry provides over 16,000 medical and awareness services to visitors of Cairo Book Fair

The Ministry of Health and Population announced the provision of medical and awareness services to 16,174 visitors to the Cairo International Book Fair in its 56th session, since the start of the fair’s activities, from January 24th until Sunday.

 

This was part of the Ministry’s medical insurance plan for the Cairo International Book Fair, which aligns with the Ministry of Culture’s efforts to ensure the health and safety of citizens and participating delegations from Egypt.

 

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the community communication and psychological support teams at the Ministry provided awareness to 6,427 visitors from the fair’s visitors and participants in the various cultural activities held on the sidelines of the fair.

 

These activities included introducing citizens to the importance of mental health, instilling a culture of recovery from mental disorders and rehabilitation under the umbrella of the presidential initiative (Your Health is Happiness), in addition to health awareness for visitors and participants about precautionary measures to prevent respiratory diseases during the winter and the services of the presidential initiative “100 Million Health,” in addition to the services of the “New Beginning for Human Development” initiative.

 

Abdel Ghaffar said that 3, mobile clinics set up near the entrances to the exhibition gave medical exams and health education to 6,753 people. These clinics had medical teams from surgery, dentistry, and internal medicine, as well as people who measured blood pressure and diabetes as part of the “President’s initiative to follow up and treat chronic diseases and early detection of kidney disease.” The clinics were given emergency medications, painkillers, and other medical and preventive supplies.

 

For her part, Menan Abdel-Maksoud, Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, said that the Secretariat’s pavilion at the Cairo International Book Fair this year in Hall No. (2) c39 received 2,994 visitors to the exhibition to answer inquiries about the services provided by the Secretariat and to provide psychological counseling sessions “free of charge” throughout the exhibition period, to spread awareness about mental health, addiction treatment, and the services provided, in addition to contributing to removing the stigma from mental patients.
