Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received a phone call on Wednesday from Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein to discuss developments in the Palestinian cause and the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that the call reaffirmed the strong and enduring ties between Egypt and Jordan, highlighting the commitment of both leaders to coordinating on regional issues in a manner that serves the interests of the Egyptian and Jordanian peoples, as well as the broader Arab world.
El-Shenawy added that the discussion primarily focused on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. Both leaders underscored the unity of Egyptian and Jordanian positions, emphasizing the need for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, the continued release of hostages and detainees, and the facilitation of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of civilians in the Strip.
Al-Sisi and King Abdullah stressed the importance of initiating Gaza’s reconstruction immediately while ensuring that Palestinians remain on their land. They also condemned Israeli actions in the West Bank, calling for an end to ongoing violations against the Palestinian people.
The official spokesperson further noted that the two leaders affirmed their commitment to close cooperation with US President Trump to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East. They emphasized the necessity of establishing a Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions. This, they asserted, is essential to ensuring peaceful coexistence among all peoples of the region.
El-Shenawy also stated that Al-Sisi and King Abdullah discussed enhancing coordination and consultation among Arab countries, particularly in preparation for the emergency Arab summit scheduled in Egypt on 27 February. The summit aims to advance peace, stability, and prosperity in the region in response to the aspirations of Arab nations.
