US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza during a press conference with Jordanian King Abdullah II. While Trump insisted that “the Palestinians will live safely somewhere other than Gaza,” Abdullah responded cautiously, stating that he would act in the best interest of his country.
Speaking in Washington on Tuesday after receiving the Jordanian king, Trump said: “We will manage Gaza very properly, and we will not buy it,” expressing confidence in reaching a solution.
In contrast, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday evening that Cairo intends to present a vision for rebuilding Gaza that ensures Palestinians remain on their land. The ministry’s statement affirmed that “Egypt expresses its aspiration to cooperate with the US administration led by Trump to reach a comprehensive and just peace in the region by achieving a fair settlement for the Palestinian issue that takes into account the rights of the peoples of the region.”
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) reported on Wednesday that a delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas in Gaza, had arrived in Cairo. The delegation is holding meetings with Egyptian officials to oversee the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the exchange of prisoners through technical committees and mediators.
Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem stated that ongoing discussions with mediating countries aim to ensure the occupation adheres to the ceasefire terms. He accused Israel of evading commitments and reaffirmed Hamas’ stance, saying, “We will not accept the language of American and Israeli threats. The occupation must implement the terms of the ceasefire agreement until the prisoners are released.” He added, “The occupation is required to adhere to the agreed-upon humanitarian protocol.”
More than 90 American and international organizations issued a statement condemning Trump’s remarks, denouncing his intent to displace Palestinians and seize Gaza. They described his comments as “an explicit call for ethnic cleansing” and a violation of international law.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Wednesday that the total causalities of Israel’s military offensive have risen to 48,222 dead and 111,674 wounded since 7 October 2023.
In its daily statistical report, the ministry confirmed that three additional casualties arrived at hospitals within the past 24 hours, including two bodies recovered from the rubble and one newly deceased person. Nine others were reported injured.
The ministry further noted that many victims remain trapped under the debris or on the roads, where emergency responders are unable to reach them due to a severe lack of equipment.
