Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has stated that Egyptian companies can rebuild the Gaza Strip in three years, drawing on their extensive expertise. The reconstruction plan aims to avoid displacement of Palestinians.
Madbouly, speaking at a Wednesday press conference following the weekly cabinet meeting, emphasised that Egyptian firms are well-equipped to execute these projects to the highest standards, with the goal of restoring Gaza to an even better condition than before.
He confirmed that a general framework for the reconstruction is underway, involving numerous Egyptian universities and consulting firms. Madbouly also highlighted Egypt’s technical and engineering capabilities, citing the nation’s experience in development projects.
According to Egyptian officials, the Egyptian plan proposes a three-phase reconstruction of Gaza, spanning up to five years. The plan designates three “safe zones” within Gaza to relocate Palestinians temporarily during an initial “early recovery period” of six months. These zones will be equipped with mobile homes, shelters and humanitarian aid.
Madbouly underscored Egypt’s track record in implementing reconstruction projects both domestically and internationally, stating that this makes Egyptian companies highly qualified for the work in Gaza. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Palestinians during this period.
“I monitor daily the number of injured individuals arriving from Gaza for treatment in Egypt,” Madbouly said. “Since the ceasefire, these numbers have been increasing, reflecting Egypt’s consistent role. We will never waver in this commitment. Furthermore, a new convoy from the Tahya Misr Fund was dispatched this week to provide assistance to our Palestinian brothers in Gaza.”
Madbouly referenced his recent meeting with the Palestinian Prime Minister, during which Egypt received technical and engineering studies from international institutions, including the World Bank. According to Madbouly, these studies outline the stages of reconstruction and are being incorporated into Egypt’s comprehensive plan for rebuilding Gaza.
Madbouly also highlighted Egypt’s diplomatic efforts regarding the Palestinian issue, noting President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s meeting with the President of the World Jewish Congress. He emphasized the importance of this visit in affirming key principles, including the right of Palestinians to establish an independent state within the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Madbouly stated that this is a non-negotiable position for the Arab and Islamic world, as well as the broader international community.
Madbouly further noted that Cairo hosted the fourth meeting of the International Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. The meeting was attended by the Commissioner-General of UNRWA and United Nations coordinators for humanitarian affairs and reconstruction.
Madbouly announced that the upcoming mini-Arab summit will prepare for the Arab summit scheduled for March 4. A key agenda item will be a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
