Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke with European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas on Wednesday to discuss the Gaza ceasefire and the Egyptian-EU partnership.
During the telephone conversation, Abdelatty commended the development of Egyptian-European relations across several sectors, which has occurred since relations were elevated to a strategic and comprehensive partnership. He recognised the important role Kallas has played in strengthening this partnership.
Abdelatty expressed his desire for increased economic, trade, and investment links with the European Union. He also underscored the importance of Kallas’s continued support for Egypt within EU institutions to implement the partnership’s six pillars and approve the second tranche of the European financial package for Egypt, valued at €4 billion.
Abdelatty briefed Kallas on Egypt’s efforts to strengthen the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and implement its three phases. He urged Kallas to increase efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s plan for early recovery and reconstruction, which aims to ensure Palestinians remain on their land. He noted the plan has the support of Arab and Islamic nations and expressed his hope for the European Union’s backing of Egyptian efforts.
Abdelatty also stressed the need to find a political resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, affirming that the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state remain the only path to achieving peace in the region.
