Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel Al-Wazir met with UK Trade Envoy to Egypt Yasmin Qureshi to discuss enhancing cooperation in industry and transport. Al-Wazir emphasized the deep-rooted ties between Egypt and the UK and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening collaboration, particularly in key industrial and transport sectors. He highlighted the UK’s role as a strategic partner and stressed the importance of increasing British investment in Egypt, particularly in pharmaceuticals, food production, and engineering, where the UK holds a competitive edge.

During the meeting, Al-Wazir reviewed transport projects involving British companies, particularly the Monorail project, which he described as one of Egypt’s most significant modern and environmentally friendly mass transit initiatives. He underscored the need for continued British support in maintaining the system, providing spare parts, and resolving any operational challenges.

The discussion also covered British companies currently operating in Egypt, including those looking to expand their presence. Among them is Blue Sky, a company specializing in processed fruit exports to the UK and Europe, as well as Polar Hydro, which plans to establish a waste recycling and energy conversion plant. The minister affirmed that the Industry Ministry would swiftly approve applications from serious British firms and closely monitor their projects to ensure smooth execution. He also confirmed the expansion of Allmed Medical, which is set to produce dialysis filters and machines locally, and invited Qureshi to attend the inauguration of its new factory in April.

Al-Wazir reiterated Egypt’s commitment to large-scale infrastructure projects, including seawater desalination, wastewater treatment, wind and solar energy, and green hydrogen production. He highlighted that British expertise could play a significant role in these areas, aligning with Egypt’s goal of reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

For her part, Qureshi reaffirmed the UK’s dedication to strengthening trade and investment ties with Egypt. She praised Egypt’s rapid urban development, particularly in roads, construction, and the New Administrative Capital. She also expressed her intention to present Egypt’s targeted industrial sectors to the UK government and British businesses, with a particular focus on renewable energy, which aligns with the UK’s commitment to sustainability and climate action.
