Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty, met with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh on Saturday, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and to follow up on Abdelatty’s recent visit to Eritrea on 28 February.

During the meeting, Abdelatty emphasised the strong relationship between Egypt and Eritrea and expressed his hope for continued consultation and coordination to enhance bilateral cooperation.

He noted the desire to explore new opportunities for collaboration in political, economic, and trade sectors, reflecting the historical ties between the two countries. Abdelatty also mentioned the hope for continued meetings of the tripartite coordination mechanism between Egypt, Eritrea, and Somalia, which held its first ministerial meeting in Cairo in January.

The ministers exchanged views on regional issues of mutual interest, focusing on the situation in Africa and methods to support peace and security in the Horn of Africa. Discussions included supporting Somalia in its fight against terrorism and efforts to establish sovereignty over its entire territory.

They also addressed developments in Sudan, emphasising the importance of providing support to the Sudanese state and its national institutions, while preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.

Furthermore, the meeting covered the situations in the Sahel region of Africa and developments in the Red Sea. Both ministers voiced their opposition to the involvement of any non-littoral state in the security and governance of the Red Sea.
