The Egyptian Red Crescent’s Board of Directors convened a meeting, chaired by Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity and Deputy Chairperson of the Board, with a primary focus on the organisation’s ongoing efforts to support Palestinians amid the current humanitarian crisis.
During the meeting, discussions centred on the support provided to Palestinians since the start of the crisis. The board reviewed response efforts from January to date, highlighting Egypt’s role in providing humanitarian and relief aid to Palestinians. Specific services offered to the injured and their companions were examined, including medical examinations, medication distribution, personal hygiene kits, psychological support, health awareness initiatives, and family reunification efforts, in addition to providing supplies for children and food baskets.
The meeting was attended by Adel Adawy, former Minister of Health and a board member, alongside other leaders from the Egyptian Red Crescent, Ayman Abdel-Mawgood, Permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, Karim Qalawi, Legal Advisor to the Ministry, and Amal Imam, Executive Director of the Egyptian Red Crescent.
The board also addressed the recent visit of Kate Forbes, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, to Egypt. Forbes met with officials and toured the Egyptian Red Crescent headquarters, praising the organisation’s efforts in responding to humanitarian crises, particularly the Gaza crisis. She stressed the importance of continuing to support the Egyptian Red Crescent in its humanitarian role as an auxiliary to the Egyptian authorities, both domestically and regionally, and in supporting volunteers and volunteer work.
The board further discussed the Egyptian Red Crescent’s response to the crisis in Sudan, as well as the organisation of comprehensive relief and development convoys across Egypt. In January and February, the Egyptian Red Crescent carried out 94 convoys in 22 Egyptian governorates. Response teams attended more than 185 emergencies and events, providing first aid and medical services to 1,255 injured people.
Finally, following the meeting, Morsy met with women working at the Egyptian Red Crescent headquarters, congratulating them on Mother’s Day. She praised their role and the contributions of the Egyptian Red Crescent, its staff, and its logistical centres, which she said, are respected worldwide.
