Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdelatty, convened a meeting with accredited journalists from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and prominent opinion leaders on Saturday, March 22nd, to discuss regional and international issues. Osman Saleh Mohamed, the Eritrean Minister of Foreign Affairs, also attended the gathering.
During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty addressed recent regional and international developments, focusing on the challenges Egypt faces within its regional environment. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to maintaining a strategic balance in its international relations, reiterating the core principles of Egyptian foreign policy.
Outlining the key priorities of Egyptian foreign policy, as directed by the President, Abdelatty said these included safeguarding national security and interests, promoting the national economy, encouraging investment, and protecting the welfare of Egyptians abroad through dedicated initiatives.
Abdelatty addressed several significant regional issues, with particular emphasis on the Palestinian question. He referenced the outcomes of the recent Arab Summit and Egypt’s ongoing efforts to garner support for the Arab plan concerning the early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza.
The Foreign Minister also reaffirmed Egypt’s position regarding developments in Syria, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa. Furthermore, he addressed aspects of Egyptian-African relations and the topic of Egyptian water security.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of the media’s role in raising public awareness of the external challenges confronting Egypt, especially during this period of unstable regional developments.
The meeting facilitated a wide-ranging discussion on various regional and international issues, their implications for Egyptian national security, and strategies for addressing them.
