Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Monday with US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Weitkoff, to discuss bilateral relations and developments in Gaza. The call was part of regular consultations between the two officials, reflecting the strategic nature of Egyptian-American relations.
Discussions focused on joint efforts by Egypt, the United States, and Qatar to secure the release of hostages, de-escalate tensions, and implement a ceasefire in Gaza. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to working together to achieve security, peace, and stability in the Middle East, with the aim of creating a conflict-free region and realising the US administration’s vision of ending more than 70 years of conflict.
Abdelatty briefed Weitkoff on Egypt’s comprehensive modernisation and development process, led by the President, and the achievements made in recent years. He highlighted the positive macroeconomic indicators of the Egyptian economy, which have been praised by international institutions, including the International Monetary Fund.
Weitkoff commended the close relations between the two countries and Egypt’s central role in achieving security, peace, and stability in the region. He also praised Egypt’s role, alongside Qatar, in efforts to secure the release of hostages and establish a ceasefire in Gaza.
