At the third National Initiative for Smart Green Projects Conference, UN Resident Coordinator to Egypt, Elena Panova, commended the initiative for demonstrating the power of local solutions in driving national progress and reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to climate action and sustainable development.
In her address, Panova highlighted the initiative’s impact over the past three years, stating, “Innovation is not just an abstract goal but a tangible force for change—one that reshapes industries, empowers communities, and accelerates Egypt’s green transition.” She congratulated the Government of Egypt and all partners involved, with special recognition for Ambassador Mohamed Badr’s dedication in positioning Egypt as a regional leader in climate action.
Panova emphasized that the initiative translates the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into real, measurable impact. “From the bustling streets of Cairo to the most remote villages, true transformation starts at the local level,” she noted.
Celebrating the entrepreneurs and innovators driving green solutions, she remarked, “Today, we honor those who are not only advancing climate resilience but also fostering economic empowerment.” She underscored the importance of inclusivity in the green transition, ensuring that youth, women, and marginalized communities benefit from sustainable development.
Reaffirming the UN’s commitment to the initiative, Panova praised contributions from UN-Habitat, UNIDO, UN Women, FAO, WFP, and UNHCR. “Beyond recognition, our commitment is action,” she emphasized.
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Panova asserted: “The climate challenge is vast, but so are the solutions within our reach. Now is the time to accelerate action, scale up innovation, and build a greener, more sustainable future for all.”
She concluded by reaffirming the UN’s support for Egypt’s climate leadership and the continued success of smart green projects. “Congratulations once again to the inspiring entrepreneurs and their partners who are making this vision a reality.”
