The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) recently hosted a high-level delegation from the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) for a three-day visit aimed at sharing expertise and showcasing Egypt’s pioneering achievements in banknote printing and cash management. The visit took place at the CBE’s state-of-the-art Banknote Printing House and Cash Centre, located in the New Administrative Capital, and falls within the broader framework of strengthening cooperation among African central banks.

The South African delegation included nine technical experts from SARB who engaged in in-depth discussions and toured the CBE’s advanced facilities. They were introduced to the latest automation technologies, operational workflows, risk mitigation protocols, and governance structures that define Egypt’s modern approach to currency printing and cash logistics.

Khaled Farouk, Deputy Governor of the CBE responsible for the Banknote Printing House, welcomed the delegation, saying:
“We are always pleased to host colleagues from African central banks. It is an honour to welcome our South African counterparts and share Egypt’s experience. Visits like this reflect the CBE’s leadership in banking infrastructure and underscore the world-class standards of our facilities in the New Administrative Capital.”

Naglaa Nozahy, Advisor to the CBE Governor for African Affairs, highlighted the significance of such exchanges, noting: “Our continued engagement with African central banks across a wide range of regulatory and operational disciplines reflects the CBE’s and Egypt’s strategic commitment to fostering continental collaboration. We were delighted to receive this distinguished group of experts and look forward to further strengthening ties with the South African Reserve Bank.”

The programme featured an extensive guided tour of both the Banknote Printing House and Cash Centre, led by senior officials from several CBE departments, including African Cooperation, Banking Operations, Security, and Printing House operations. The visit also included knowledge-sharing sessions focused on currency management, research initiatives, and technological advancements in central banking.

On behalf of the visiting delegation, Delia Sampson expressed her appreciation to the CBE, stating: “This has been an unforgettable experience that provided valuable insights into Egypt’s approach to banknote printing and cash handling. We look forward to building on this foundation and expanding bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both our economies.”
