CAIRO: Security forces arrested 20 members of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group in Al-Mansoura, Al-Dakahalia governorate, according to Abdel-Moneim Abdel-Maqsoud, the group’s lawyer.

Abdel-Maqsoud told Daily News Egypt that the arrests took place on Saturday at dawn.

Last Thursday security officials arrested 21 other members from the group in Al-Sharkia governorate, Abdel-Maqsoud added.

According to Abdel-Maqsoud, all of the recently arrested members are charged with joining an illegal political group. “This is the typical regular charge that all detained members from the group usually face, he added.

However, according to Abdel-Maqsoud, these recent arrests are a response to protests the group organized “successfully against the Israeli’s violations at the Al-Aqsah Mosque.

According to the MB’s official statement that was sent to Daily News Egypt, the group has organized in the past few weeks “120 protests in different cities and villages condemning the Israeli violations against the Al-Aqsah Mosque, in which more than 20,000 citizens have participated.
