Amina Khalil displayed her second Spring/Summer collection last Saturday at Hanfaninha Gallery. The collection, Amina K., marries the spirit of the East with a Western fashion sensibility.
Khalil is back from London where she studied fashion design and interned for designers Mathew Willamson and Diane Von Furstenberg. Now, she’s making a name for herself as an Egyptian designer with a modern aesthetic yet whilst still maintaining a sense of her roots.
“I am very insistent about using Egyptian resources from materials to the finished product, says Khalil. Using traditional textiles such as boldly colored khayamia, and traditional kaftan materials, Khalil revives a traditional look with modern shapes. Dresses, jumpsuits for summers, shorts and waistcoats are available, as well as pouches, belts and beach wear cover ups.
Khalil has also produced a dashing menswear line, and an adorable limited collection for children.
