CAIRO: The Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Social Fund for Development are in the process of creating a new system to enhance the government’s subsidized bread quality and its distribution services.

The government provides subsidized bread to citizens who hold ration cards.

The Social Fund for Development will offer small loans to unemployed youngsters to buy covered carts that will transport the bread, according to Allaa Abdel Moneim, the organization’s media spokesperson.

The carts will be available in most places and so the bread will be available to citizens everywhere.

Abdel Moneim told The Daily Star Egypt that the project will also provide a home delivery service.

The new bread delivery service and distribution points will replace the old ones where citizens used to spend long hours standing in line to get their bread.

Other fixed distribution sources will also be available but will be changed to adopt a more civilized method that will protect the quality of the bread and save time and effort, Abdel Moneim indicated.

The project will also provide new employment opportunities as we will hire drivers for the carts and others to work in the home delivery service, he added.

No more details were available because the project is still at the planning stage.
