CAIRO: Egypt will start producing petroleum pumps to meet the needs of the oil, gas and petrochemicals production activity process in this industry.
The Ministry of Petroleum signed a deal to establish the first joint Egyptian-German production plant in Suez to produce pumps in the Middle East. With the participation of the Egyptian petroleum sector companies and the German RuhrPumpen Company, the plant will cost about LE 150 million in investments.
“This deal will lead to strengthening the local manufacturing ability, increasing the use of domestic components used in production and the reduction of imports, Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmi said.
Fahmi and Yasser El-Maghrabi, CEO of the Egyptian-German Pumps Co., decided to ink the agreement after the successful production of the first two oil pumps in Egypt for the Egyptian Natural Gas Co (GASCO) in accordance with international standards.
“This is the first time these types of pumps are produced in Egypt and the Middle East, which rely on specialized technology in manufacturing. This know-how was transferred by RuhrPumpen to a few international companies, the minister’s office told Daily News Egypt.
The pumps plant in Suez is being implemented in partnership with ENPPI and Petrojet at the engineering and executive-design levels. The plant will be constructed over three development stages to gradually increase manufacturing capacity to reach about 93 percent by the end of the third phase in 2010.
Production capacity will eventually reach 400 pumps annually to cover domestic needs and export the surplus to the Middle East and African markets. It will also create new job opportunities for youth and transfer developed international technology and skills to neighboring countries.
