CAIRO: Egypt’s International Economic Forum will host a meeting with Health Minister Hatem El-Gabaly on Oct. 11.
El-Gabaly will address the topic “Universal Healthcare and Reform of the Health Sector: The Time is Now, shedding light on critical issues related to health sector reform.
He will also discuss the ministry’s efforts to improve the quality and access to healthcare services.
According to a press statement from the forum, Egypt plans to introduce a universal healthcare scheme by 2010 to cover all citizens. At present, half of the population is covered by basic government health insurance, while the rest are either enrolled in private health insurance schemes, or possess no health insurance at all.
As rapid population growth exceeds current healthcare financing levels, El-Gabaly will highlight the government s plan to cover all Egyptians and ways to improve access to health services.
The event is the first of the forum’s recently established Health Strategy Group, comprising leading experts and practitioners. -Daily News Egypt
