CAIRO: Egypt has banned a book by a British journalist about Egyptian politics and society entitled Inside Egypt: The Land of the Pharaohs on the Brink of a Revolution, the author told AFP on Wednesday.

According to my publisher, the American University in Cairo bookstore ordered 50 copies of ‘Inside Egypt’ a few days ago, only to cancel the order a few hours later after being informed by Egyptian government censors that the book is banned in Egypt, John R. Bradley told AFP.

The book s New York-based publishers Palgrave Macmillan confirmed the book had been banned in Egypt.

The book examines the junctions of Egyptian politics and society as they slowly disintegrate under the twin pressures of a ruthless military dictatorship at home and a flawed Middle East policy in Washington, the publishers said in a statement.

It was not possible to get any official confirmation of the ban because Wednesday is a public holiday in Egypt. -AFP
