RIYADH: Saudi Arabia s top Islamic judiciary official has issued a religious decree saying it is permissible to kill the owners of satellite TV networks that broadcast what he called immoral.

The 79-year-old hard-line Sheikh Saleh Al-Lihedan said satellite channels cause the deviance of thousands of people.

Many of the most popular Arab satellite networks are owned by Saudi princes and well-connected Saudi businessmen. Many of those networks are based in Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

The cleric made the decree, known as a fatwa, during a radio program on Tuesday.

Al-Lihedan has sparked controversy in the past by issuing a decree that Saudis can join jihadists to fight US troops in Iraq. -AP
