CAIRO: Dutch coach Huub Stevens slammed Mohamed Zidan’s criticism over his bad treatment at Hamburg.

“It shows what kind of man he is. Why didn’t he say so when I was in charge at Hamburg. He didn’t have the courage to do it, Stevens told Bild.

The Egyptian forward said it was the worst season of his career and that he should have had more chances.

“I gave him a lot of opportunities but he failed to prove his worth. I told the players that Zidan won’t recover his form, added Stevens.

“As a coach I have a responsibility towards the team and not a player. I respect all the players including Zidan.

Zidan is one of the highest-paid players at Hamburg as he is earning around ?2.5 million per season.

“He should talk about his achievements not the money. The club directors and fans were expecting him to prove his worth but he didn’t help himself, and so I won’t do it for him, concluded Stevens.
