CAIRO: Moussa Mostafa Moussa, who claims he is the rightful head of Al-Ghad Party, is demanding LE 10 million in compensation from Ayman Nour, the party’s founder.
Moussa filed a lawsuit at the South Cairo Court on Monday against Nour and his supporters, most prominently the party’s official head Ehab El-Khouly, vice president Wael Nawara, and secretary general Sayed Basyouni.
Moussa told Daily News Egypt that he filed the lawsuit after winning a seat in the Shoura Council as a representative of Al-Ghad Party, as well as to put a financial burden on Nour and his supporters and prevent them from speaking in the party’s name.
Nour, however, downplayed the significance of the lawsuit.
“Everyone knows that the recognition of a group whose membership has been terminated [from Al-Ghad] by the political parties committee is a result of Al-Ghad’s anti-government stance and calls for reforms that alarm the regime,” Nour told Daily News Egypt.
The political parties committee is part of the Shoura Council.
El-Khouly said, “Moussa has filed a lawsuit against me accusing me of unrightfully claiming the position of the head of Al-Ghad party. However, the Qasr El-Nil Misdemeanors Court issued a verdict on April 19 acquitting me based on many previous court verdicts which prove the legitimacy of my position as head of the party."
