The marketplace in the Sayeda Aisha neighborhood of Cairo was razed to the ground by a fire started when a speeding car veered off a highway bridge and plunged into the market early on Tuesday, June 22. Three people were killed in the incident at the open-air market made up of wooden stalls and small shops as 70 fire trucks and firefighters struggled for 10 hours until they put the blaze out, according to Egyptian officials speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
