CAIRO: A scheduled meeting between Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been postponed to Sunday, Egyptian and Israeli officials said on Tuesday.

An Egyptian presidential source said a separate meeting between Mubarak and Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas scheduled for Thursday had also been pushed to Sunday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Egyptian information ministry’s press center said in an email to reporters that the meeting was postponed indefinitely.

An Israeli government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "For logistic reasons the visit has been postponed until Sunday."

Netanyahu’s office said the meeting had been postponed until Sunday for "mutual scheduling reasons" without providing further details.

Mubarak, whose country has diplomatic ties with Israel, has acted as a mediator between Israel and the Palestinians, which are currently conducting US-brokered indirect talks.

Abbas has refused demands to hold direct negotiations unless progress is first made on the issues of final borders and security.
