Egypt’s index ended lower in a quiet end to the trading week, with investors’ cautious ahead of earnings and little news to move stocks.
"There is no catalyst to push people to buy, we are still trading lower than LE 1 billion ($175.5 million) — there is no appetite for trade," said Pyramids Capital’s vice chairman Hashem Ghoneim.
Earnings season, which is expected to start mid-August, could boost stocks if profits beat forecasts, Ghoneim said.
"We need some positive news especially in bluechip companies like Orascom Telecom (OT) and Talaat Moustafa that have big volumes and could shift the market up," he added.
OT dipped 0.4 percent and Talat Moustafa fell 1.2 percent.
The index slipped 0.1 percent to 6,049 points.
