Global Environment Facility (GEF), a global partnership among 178 countries, has approved lending Egypt $100 million to co-finance the construction of a 100-megawatt solar park in Kom Ombo, the country’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy said.
The plant is expected to cost around $400-500 million and will be financed by the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The Egyptian government is currently implementing power projects across the country worth $2 billion which are expected to add 920 MW to the country’s national grid.
