CAIRO: Shikabala did his bad reputation no favor by engaging in a new quarrel with Zamalek fans during Saturday’s training session.

The talented winger finally joined up with the Cairo side at their pre-season training camp after going AWOL for several days after being reportedly insulted by coach Hossam Hassan.

He apologized for his actions and Zamalek said they were looking to extend his contract but his latest outburst could cost him a prolonged stay at the club.

The Cairo side’s fans shouted angry chants against Shikabala on Saturday and he responded in a furious manner, showing his boots to them while walking off the pitch.

His teammates intervened to calm things down and he eventually completed training.

Shikabala is often criticized for failing to live up to his potential despite his undoubted talent.

He was involved in many disputes with Zamalek’s enthusiastic fans during the past few years.

Belgian giants Anderlecht were interested in signing him in the close season but the White Knights turned down their offer.

The 24-year-old, who returned to Zamalek in 2006 after spending two seasons at Greek side PAOK, has one year left on his contract with the White Knights.
